Tagline: Taking Mental Health Campaign to the Grassroots – Reaching Everyone with the Message of Hope

At The Concern Home Social & Charitable Initiative (TCH), our vision is rooted in the belief that every individual, regardless of background or status, deserves the opportunity to live a full, dignified life. Mental health is an essential part of that journey.

The World Health Organisation raised concerns over worsening mental health, stating that over a billion people are affected according to new data released in 2025, that is, 1 in every 7 people are living with a mental health condition, with anxiety and depressive disorders accounting for over two-thirds of all cases affecting people of all ages and income levels across various countries and communities, with immense human and economic implications. They account for long-term disability, contributing to the loss of healthy life.

The increasing rate of mental illness worldwide—and particularly in Nigeria—demands urgent attention. Many individuals battling mental health challenges are left untreated, stigmatized, and, in heartbreaking cases, homeless. These realities point to systemic failures in access to care, early intervention, and compassionate community support. At TCH, we believe this must change.

We recognize that mental health is not just a workplace issue—it is a societal issue that affects children, youths, women, and men alike. That is why this year’s campaign is focused on “Mental Health Beyond the Workplace”, bringing awareness to communities often left out of the conversation: those in inner cities, rural areas, informal settlements, correctional centers, schools, and homes.

As an organization committed to child protection, women’s empowerment, rehabilitation, holistic health, and mental well-being, TCH views mental health as both a human right and a social justice imperative. Our approach aligns with the World Health Organization’s definition of mental health as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes their abilities, can cope with life’s stresses, work productively, and contribute meaningfully to society.

Mental health challenges are deeply rooted in a range of social and emotional factors, including:

  • Substance abuse – now a rampant issue among children, youth, and adults.
  • Unresolved trauma – especially from childhood violence, abuse, or family breakdown.
  • Chronic stress and burnout – from economic hardship, caregiving, or societal pressures.
  • Marital and family crises – often leading to emotional instability or depression.
  • Accidents and life disruptions – that leave lasting damage to the brain and psychological wounds
  • Cultural and spiritual misinterpretations – that delay access to professional care.

Our campaign seeks to:

  • Break the silence around mental illness and eliminate stigma.
  • Educate communities, especially at the grassroots, on mental health as a key part of overall health.
  • Empower families, caregivers, and survivors with resources and support.
  • Promote prevention through psychoeducation, especially among youths and vulnerable groups.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve access to professional care and build supportive community networks.

This year, TCH is expanding its mental health outreach by engaging schools, market communities, workplaces, worship centers, and underserved neighborhoods with tools, workshops, and safe spaces for conversations and healing.

Because mental illness does not discriminate, our campaign is for everyone—from executives facing burnout to school children dealing with trauma. And because healing is possible, our message is one of hope, help, and holistic care.

Together, we can build a society where mental wellness is protected, supported, and celebrated.
