The family unit is the nucleus of the society; it is the most important social institution – fundamental to the effective functioning of the larger society. As the primary source of socialisation, it is responsible for shaping the lives of every individual, and these individuals come together to form a larger social system. The disintegration of this most important unit of society can have several implications for society. Social problems common to the family unit include domestic violence, conflict, and separation/divorce and the consequences of these will more often than not result in other social problems of single parenting, child abuse, child sexual abuse, juvenile delinquency, teenage pregnancy, school dropout, poor academic performance in some cases, as well as other psychological problems which stems thereby – for instance, transference of trauma from one generation to the next. It is noteworthy that parents who suffered from childhood trauma and never healed from it are most likely going to allow their traumatic experience to influence their parenting style in raising their children.
The focus here is on family stability through capacity building, educating and empowering families, advocating the need for parenting skills that aligns with parenting current generation without compromising
